Essential Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
2. Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems to support data analysis and decision-making.
3. Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic initiatives.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide actionable insights.
5. Ensure data quality and integrity through regular audits and validation processes.
6. Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
7. 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
1. Data & Risk Analytics
8. Lead hands-on analysis using SQL, Python, and BI tools across large-scale payments datasets
9. Design, build, and maintain scalable dashboards to monitor payments risk
10. Develop and own KRIs/KPIs frameworks across European payment flows
11. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and governance alignment across reporting and analytics outputs
12. Establish and apply best practices in data analysis, visualization, and reporting
2. Payments Risk Monitoring & Diagnostics
13. Conduct deep-dive analyses to identify anomalies, emerging risks, and systemic issues
14. Perform root cause analysis on payment issues (e.g., bank returns, delays, processing failures)
15. Quantify risk exposure and assess impact using transaction-level data
16. Proactively surface and escalate key risk insights to stakeholders
4. SEPA & Payments Domain Expertise
17. Develop strong expertise in PayPal payments
18. Analyze SEPA data to detect trends, inefficiencies, and scheme-related risks
19. Extend analytics beyond SEPA to other payment methods, channels, and infrastructure components
20. Support data-driven engagement with banking partners, schemes, and internal stakeholders
5. Risk Governance & Oversight
21. Contribute to and help drive risk governance activities, including: Risk reporting and dashboards, Governance forums and risk reviews, Thematic analyses and control assessments
22. Support identification of control gaps and drive data-backed recommendations for remediation
23. Partner with first-line teams to validate fixes and ensure sustainable issue resolution
24. Enhance risk monitoring frameworks and analytics-driven oversight capabilities
What You Bring
Core Experience
25. "Fluency in both German and English is required, with full professional proficiency in spoken and written German."
26. 5+ years in payments / fintech / financial services
27. Proven experience in payments risk, oversight, or financial operations environments
28. Experience with SEPA schemes and European payments ecosystem preferred
Technical & Domain Skills
29. Advanced proficiency in:
30. SQL (complex querying, data modeling)
31. Python (data analysis, automation)
32. BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.)
33. Experience building dashboards, data pipelines, and scalable analytics solutions
34. Familiarity with cloud data platforms (e.g., BigQuery) is a plus
