Six PhDs at UTN in the field of "Deep Learning – Large Language Models" (m/f/d) - CSAI-ML-25-04.
The Machine Learning Lab (Prof. Dr. Josif Grabocka) in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University of Nuremberg (UTN) currently offers six fully funded PhD opportunities (3 years, 100% positions, TV-L E13) on the topic of Efficient Fine-Tuning and Alignment of Large Language Models.
We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals who would like to join our dynamic and international research team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of large language models. The position is part of a newly established research laboratory in cooperation with the Bavarian State Tax Office, which is researching novel methods for fine-tuning and aligning large language models in the field of taxation.

Your responsibilities:

* Conducting scientific research to develop new methods for fine-tuning and aligning large language models
* Publication of research results at leading conferences and in journals such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, IJCAI, AAAI, KDD, TMLR and JMLR
* Supporting Prof. Dr. Josif Grabocka in teaching courses such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Large Language Models at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at UTN

Your profile:

* A Master's degree (M.Sc.) in mathematics or computer science with very good grades
* In-depth knowledge of mathematics, probability theory, statistics and linear algebra
* A master's thesis with a clear focus on machine learning that goes beyond the mere application of ML to a specific task
* Strong programming skills
* Knowledge of PyTorch and training large-scale deep learning models on multiple nodes with multiple GPUs
* Very good communication and presentation skills in English are also crucial for this role

The Machine Learning Lab (Prof. Dr. Josif Grabocka) at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) is currently offering six openings for fully funded doctoral research opportunities (100% position – TVL E13) on the topic: Efficient Fine-Tuning and Alignment of Large Language Models.
We are seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our dynamic and international research team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of Large Language Models. The position will be part of a newly-established research lab in cooperation with the Bavarian Tax Office (Bavarian State Office for Taxes), which researches novel methods to fine-tune and align Large Language Models in the application realm of taxation.

Your tasks:

* Conduct scientific research in discovering novel methods for fine-tuning and aligning Large Language Models
* Publish your research results at leading academic conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, IJCAI, AAAI, KDD, TMLR, and JMLR
* Assist Prof. Dr. Josif Grabocka in teaching courses such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Large Language Models at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of UTN

Your profile:

* A M.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Computer Science with top grades
* Advanced knowledge of Math, Probability, Statistics, and Linear Algebra
* A M.Sc. thesis with a deep focus on Machine Learning, which goes beyond simply applying ML to a specific application
* Strong programming skills
* Knowledge of PyTorch and training large-scale Deep Learning models on multiple nodes with multiple GPUs
* Effective communication and presentation abilities in English are also crucial in this role
