We are looking to support our rapidly growing team as soon as possible: Post Doc (f/m/x) Neurology - Research group for Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation TV-L: 38,5 h/week (100%) limited for 3 years according to WissZeitVG (Third-party funded project) Your salary will be based on TV-L TV-L: 38,5 h/week (100%) limited for 3 years according to WissZeitVG (Third-party funded project) Your salary will be based on TV-L Your tasks Conduct electroencephalography (EEG) measurements in patients with Parkinson’s disease and DBS during a speech perception task Simultaneous recording of local field potentials (LFPs) via implanted DBS electrodes (postoperatively using DBS systems with sensing capability) Determination of electrode positions using LEAD-DBS (established in our research group) Data analysis in collaboration with the French partner institution Presentation of results at scientific conferences Writing and submission of scientific publications Potential acquisition of third-party funding for follow-up projects Your profile We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral researcher with a strong scientific interest, ideall from the fields of neuroscience, engineering, linguistics, psychology, physics, biology, or medicine. Experience with Deep Brain Stimulation and electrophysiological signal analysis (e.g. EEG/LFP analysis) is highly desirable. The candidate should be a strong team player, able to integrate both into the local research group and the international collaboration with our French partner (Prof. Serge Pinto, Laboratoire Parole et Langage, Aix-en-Provence/Marseille). A high level of commitment and flexibility is expected. Joint interdisciplinary meetings with the French team are planned, and an extended research stay at the collaborating center in France is possible. French language skills are advantageous but not mandatory. The experimental setup for the project is already established in the Department of Neurology, and a promising pilot experiment has been conducted as part of the grant application. Ethical approval is in place. The postdoctoral researcher should have substantial experience in writing scientific publications and, ideally, in securing third-party funding. In addition to patient care, the research of neurologicaldisorders is a top priority. The research environment in Cologne has continuously expanded in recent years. The research focus on Neuromodulation is dedicated by the Medical Faculty to investigating and developing innovative preventive and therapeutic approaches for neurological and psychiatric disorders. The research group for Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) (Prof. Michael Barbe) focuses on studying the therapeutic effects of DBS. A particular emphasis is placed on speech motor control in patients with Parkinson’s disease. The group collaborates locally with the Department of Linguistic/Phonetics (Prof. Doris Mücke) and internationally with the Laboratoire Parole et Langage (LPL) in Aix-en-Provence (Prof. Serge Pinto). Together with our French colleagues, we have successfully acquired third-party funding within a DFG-ANR project. Over the course of three years, this interdisciplinary project will investigate the role of the basal ganglia in speech perception. The planned experiments will take place as part of the collaboration both in Germany and in France.
