As one of the world's largest solar research institutes, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE makes a substantial contribution to sustainable, economical, safe, and socially just energy supply worldwide. Our goal is to advance the energy transition with concrete, implementable technological solutions - through excellent research results, successful industry collaborations, and startup spin-offs. To this end, we conduct research with our around 1,300 employees in the four focus areas: energy generation, energy distribution, energy storage, and energy use. The Fraunhofer ISE's state-of-the-art R&D infrastructure, with 22,300 m² of laboratory space, enables top-tier research at an international level.
Be part of change
Do you want to actively shape the energy transition and gain practical experience during your studies? Join us and help turn this goal into reality!
Our group, Electrochemical Processes, focuses on developing low-temperature metallization pastes for solar cells. Using screen printing, these pastes are applied to the cells to create electrical contacts. It is essential for us to understand the various components of the pastes in order to develop effective alternatives to conventional silver-based systems.
For our subgroup "Electrochemical Processes: Paste Development", we are looking for a Student Assistant, starting as soon as possible, to support us with the following tasks:
* You assist the team in mixing and printing metallization pastes.
* You help characterize samples by measuring electrical and rheological properties, as well as performing optical analyses using a 3D microscope.
* Depending on your experience, support us with chemical and analytical questions.
* You prepare samples using tools such as a wafer saw or ion polisher.
* You contribute to data analysis and interpretation.
What you contribute
* You are studying a natural science, engineering, or a comparable field.
* You have a strong interest in research, polymer chemistry, and metallization.
* Practical laboratory experience and precision in experimental work are desirable.
* You have basic knowledge of solar cell technology and/or chemistry, and prior exposure to polymer characterization techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, rheometer, DMA).
* You have basic Python programming skills are an advantage.
* It is important to you to contribute to the team and to achieve goals together through collaboration.
* You are a team player, enjoy collaborative work, and take initiative in completing assigned tasks independently.
* You communicate clearly and can present your own work confidently.
What we offer
* Exclusive Insight: In collaboration with the scientists of our work unit, you gain an insight into the daily life of research and development at a research institute.
* Laboratory Infrastructure: At Fraunhofer ISE, we work with state-of-the-art systems and devices so that research projects can be conducted with the latest technology.
* Research Mix: You will have the opportunity to combine experimental work with theory, applying and expanding your knowledge from your studies.
* Supervision: You will be mentored by scientists during your work and will receive feedback on your progress.
* Teamwork: In exchange with the scientific and student staff, you gain experience working in a team and can contribute your existing experience.
* Working hours and location: We offer you the possibility to flexibly adjust your working hours in consultation to your needs and, from time to time, to work from home.
* Equal Opportunity: We value fairness and provide space for diversity.
* After Work: Celebrate yourself and your colleagues at after-work events or our annual staff parties.
Remuneration is based on the degree of the academic qualification.
We value and promote the diversity of skills among our employees and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social background, religion, ideology, disability, and sexualorientation and identity. Severely disabled persons will be given preference in case of equal qualification.
Ready for a change? Then apply now with your compelling application documents (including CV, cover letter, and references/performance records) and make a difference! After your online application is received, you will receive an automatic acknowledgment. We will get back to you as soon as possible to tell you how the process continues.
