Every summer, KWS offers full-time internships (mandatory internships only) at our cereal breeding station in Bergen-Wohlde. These paid internships typically last at least one month – preferably longer – and take place between the end of April and October. During your internship, you will gain your first-on experience in practical plant breeding in one or more of the following areas:
* Yield trials
* Seed production
* Line development
Your tasks
* Conducting trait assessments and performing all technical tasks related to plant breeding
* Supporting the team responsible for producing experimental seed in Italy
* Practical work during the harvest of trials and inbred lines
* Preparing and sowing experimental seeds
* Working in seed processing
* Participating in lectures on practical plant breeding and breeding station management (“summer school”)
Your profile
* Enrolled Bachelor’s or Master’s student in agriculture, horticulture, or a similar field
* Strong interest in practical plant breeding
* Perseverance when working outdoors and in greenhouses under various weather conditions
* Willingness and flexibility to work overtime during peak season
* Strong sense of community and team spirit
* Willingness to travel for short stays at external locations
* Good English skills, basic German skills are an advantage
* A driver’s license (Class B) is desirable
