At the Fraunhofer IPT in Aachen, we work with more than 500 employees every day to make the production of the future more digital, more flexible and more sustainable. In the group »Automation in Life Sciences«, we develop fully automated production platforms for manufacturing complex medical and pharmaceutical products. One example of this is cell therapies based on stem cells, which have regenerative properties. These cell therapies can be produced in bioreactors, for example. During cultivation, samples should be taken daily for quality control. Conventional sampling systems usually do not function double-aseptically or only once and then must be reloaded manually. However, in the reactor cultivation of stem cells, daily analysis of samples is essential for maintaining high product quality. To enable scalable, industrial production the automation of sampling is necessary. Accordingly, we would like to develop a novel sampling system that allows double-aseptic samples to be taken multiple times over a longer period of time.
Within the scope of your thesis, you will design such a system based on an existing concept.
