The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.. For our location in Berlin, Germany, we are looking for a Precision Opto-Mechanical Process Engineer - Co Packaged Optics (m/f/d) Role Purpose As a Process Development Engineer u2013 Cou2011Packaged Optics, you focus on developing and maturing micro optou2011mechanical assembly and alignment processes for nextu2011generation cou2011packaged optics products. Your primary mission is to develop automationu2011ready designs into robust, scalable manufacturing processes. You lead earlyu2011stage process development in R&D environments, defining optical and mechanical alignment strategies and validating automation concepts with a strong focus on cycle time, yield, and process capability. You operate primarily in early-stage and preu2011industrial semi-automatied setups, ensuring that processes are ready for efficient transfer to internal manufacturing teams or external automation and production partners. Key Responsibilities Optou2011Mechanical Process Development (Cou2011Packaged Optics) Develop and optimize optou2011mechanical assembly and alignment processes for cou2011packaged optics (CPO) applications. Define and validate optical and mechanical alignment strategies, including passive, active, and hybrid concepts. Work, optimize and co-develop early-stage manual, semi-automated and automated optical setups Translate product and system requirements into stable, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing processes. Contribute to the definition of optou2011mechanical interfaces from a process robustness and yield perspective. Earlyu2011Stage Automation and Process Development Develop optical assemblies and alignment processes on early-stage R&D and prototype automation setups. Analyze and optimize processes with respect to cycle time, yield, and cost drivers. Design and evaluate automation concepts for key process steps, including definition of KPIVs and KPOVs for critical process steps and establish suitable measurement and monitoring concepts. Prepare developed processes for transfer to internal manufacturing or external partners. Create process documentation, specifications, and acceptance criteria to support smooth handover. Required Qualifications Bacheloru2019s or Masteru2019s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optics / Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field. >5 years of handsu2011on experience in optou2011mechanical process development, assembly, and alignment. Experience in cou2011packaged optics or closely related highu2011precision optical and/or mechanical assembly technologies. Several years in practical experience with earlyu2011stage automation, prototype equipment, or R&D manufacturing setups Experience defining KPIV/KPOV frameworks and inline or endu2011ofu2011line measurement concepts. Knowledge of structured process development methodologies (e.g. DoE, FMEA) and history of developing processes from scratch with focus on yield, cycle time, and scalability. Fluent in English (spoken and written). Preferred Qualifications Experience in process development with optical alignment automation (active alignment, passive alignment, Pick & Place, Bonding ) Experience with fiber arrays, photonic integrated circuits (PICs), or advanced optical packaging. Solid understanding of optical alignment principles, tolerances, GD&T, and process capability. Familiarity with dispensing technologies, bonding processes, and precision handling systems.
