Job Description The impact you will make in that role: As a Technical Lab Manager, Technical Ceramics (m/f/*) you will lead the research, development, and commercialization of technical ceramic materials. In addition, you will be responsible for our global Tech Ceramics Application Engineers, supporting the growth of the business. This role oversees a technical team with global responsibility, drives technology strategy, and partners with business, manufacturing, and customer‑facing organizations to deliver differentiated, scalable solutions that support long‑term growth. · Develop and execute a global R&D strategy for Technical Ceramics aligned with business objectives. · Lead the R&D and AE team in Kempten, ensuring strong technical capability, project execution, and talent development. · Oversee the innovation pipeline from early‑stage concept development through product commercialization. · Partner with vertical teams to define market needs, technology roadmaps · Strengthen collaboration with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure technical readiness, robust scale‑up, and operational excellence. · Direct industry engagement to identify emerging trends, unmet needs, and strategic partnerships. · Ensure adherence to regulatory, safety, and compliance standards in all research programs. · Manage budgets, resource allocation, and portfolio prioritization for maximum strategic impact. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science related field · Fundamental experience in technical ceramics Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: · Master’s degree (or higher) in material science or equivalent · Experience with proven track record in R&D and/or Application Engineering in the field of material science and/or technical ceramics · Leadership experience in leading R&D teams · Strong understanding of materials synthesis, high‑temperature inorganic systems, reliability testing, and product commercialization · Understanding of application areas for Technical Ceramics products · Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions · Excellent communication skills and fluent in German Language both speaking and writing · Successful use of AI and digital tools Work location: Kempten, Germany Travel: may include 10-20% domestic/international travel Target Job Grade: 14 - Please note that the Job Grade provided indicates the target 3M Global Job Grade range and may vary depending on the skills and competencies of the candidate and local compensation guidelines.
