The joint project ConvEx aims to develop integrated exploration methods for the spatial mapping of hydrothermal convection in deep geothermal development. In the sub-project ‘Electromagnetic Exploration for Geothermal Exploration Fields’, exploration campaigns are being carried out using controlled-source electromagnetics (CSEM) and magnetotellurics (MT) methods to detect electrical conductivity contrasts at reservoir depth.
As part of the joint project, the results of the EM methods will be combined with other geophysical and petrophysical data. In addition, coupled thermal-hydraulic-mechanical numerical simulations will be carried out. We are looking for a scientist for electromagnetic exploration.
Your responsibilities:
1. Planning and execution of magnetotelluric and controlled source EM measurements
2. Participation in field measurements lasting several weeks
3. Processing and archiving of the data obtained
4. Numerical modelling and inversion of magnetotelluric and controlled source EM data
5. Interpretation of the modelling results in a geoscientific context
6. New and further development of numerical methods in EM
7. Presentation and publication of results, participation in project meetings
Your qualifications:
8. MSc in Physics, Mathematics or Geosciences, ideally with a focus on Geophysics, a PhD is desirable
9. Proven practical and theoretical experience of several years with electromagnetic methods in Geophysics
10. Proven in-depth experience in programming numerical applications (e.g. with C++, Matlab, Python, Fortran) and using high-performance computers (HPC clusters)
11. Ability and willingness to participate in geophysical field measurements lasting several weeks
12. Experience in managing, planning and conducting geophysical field measurements, ideally in the field of Electromagnetics
13. Very good written and spoken German and English
14. Valid Class B (or higher) driving licence, including driving experience
15. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and very good communication skills are expected
What we offer:
16. Ambitious and varied tasks in a dynamic and international research environment
