Position Specific Summary
The Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) Technician position at the City of Tucson's Human Resources department performs entry-level clerical and technical HR work in support of assigned area(s); provides information and responsive support to employees and leadership regarding personnel functions, policies, and procedures; completes routine reporting; data auditing; prepares and maintains personnel documents, and records. The HR Technician position is a multifaceted role that supports various departments and functions within the City of Tucson, offering essential HR services, ensuring compliance, and striving to provide the best possible customer experiences, while maintaining confidentiality.
Work is performed under the supervision of the HR Manager. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Generates and distributes both routine and custom HR reports to support HR operations, ensure compliance, and meet evolving business needs.
2. Conducts regular audits of HRIS data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established policies and procedures. Sends reminder emails to HR staff regarding required actions, deadlines, and HR processes.
3. Serves as a point of contact for employee questions related to HRIS processes, basic system navigation, and standard HR procedures. Provides day-to-day support to HRIS Analysts, including assisting with system updates, testing, and administrative task.
4. Manage multiple tasks and competing priorities while meeting deadlines in a team-oriented environment. Maintain confidentiality and ensure sensitive employee data is handled appropriately at all times.
5. Recommends, implements, and evaluates improvements in HR processes and practices. Identifies systematic inefficiencies across the organization related to HR services and collaborates with department to solve operational issues. Reviews business process, system, or other changes that might impact existing workflows and recommends methods to optimize to desired state and improve efficiency. Creates, optimizes, and supports implementation of processes which link closely to system workflows. Determines how these workflows will impact existing staffing, how to continuously refresh and monitor these workflows and recommends optimal change management processes. Assists with cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues related to workflows or other complex processes or lead discussions with the business and operational leaders to analyze needs. Implements processes and practices that can adapt quickly to changing organization, business, and demands. Participates in process improvement strategies for HR department.
6. Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. Develops and provides formal training in areas of expertise. Maintains knowledge of current developments and practices in human resources. Provides/coordinates backup to HR staff as needed. Assists in resolving a variety of personnel-related issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree
Experience: One (1) year of relevant experience
License/Certifications: A valid and unrestricted driver's license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in related field
One (1) year of Human Resources experience
