We are looking for a Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of the mechanical design function for our industrial heat pump and compressor systems. This role combines hands-on system design with team coordination and process leadership. You will guide a growing team of three designers while remaining technically involved in the development of large-scale industrial systems.
The position is based in Overath with a hybrid working model requiring regular on-site presence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design of industrial heat pump systems using Autodesk Inventor.
* Optimization of designs for manufacturability and increasing production volumes.
* Design and calculations in accordance with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).
* Performing FEM calculations.
* Supporting piston compressor design activities.
* Creation of parts lists for production and administration within the ERP system.
* Organizing and improving design processes, procedures, and systems.
* Technical leadership and coordination of a team of three designers.
* Acting as key technical contact for US stakeholders.
* Close collaboration with production (German-speaking environment).
Required Qualifications and Experience:
* Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field.
* Minimum 5+ years of technical experience, ideally 7–10 years in system design.
* Strong experience in designing large, complete industrial systems.
* Very good knowledge of Inventor and AutoCAD.
* Experience with European Pressure Directive (PED) requirements.
* Experience with FEM analysis.
* Very good German language skills (C1) and strong English skills (at least B2).
Preferred Qualification and Experience:
* Experience with pressure-bearing systems, piping, and frame structures is advantageous.
* Past experience working in a large organization.
