SUMMARY
As the Laboratory Technician, you shall participate in patient testing and reporting, assist in quality control/management requirements, assist in reporting and administrative requirements, training and tracing requirements, and specimen tracking.
QUALIFICATION
5. Have an Associate degree in biological or chemical science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited university
6. A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification (or) a foreign equivalent certification, or) Medical Technologist (MT) certification
THE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
7. Patient testing duties: examples of these duties include specimen processing; nucleic acid extraction, amplification, detection (PCR-based techniques); real-time PCR techniques; DNA sequencing; cell culture; other tasks and techniques associated with microbiological, viral, and molecular methods (to include detection of influenza viruses, gastrointestinal pathogens and toxins, hemorrhagic fever viruses, and other emerging respiratory viruses that adversely affect patient disposition)
8. Patient Test reporting: Report results into the LIS (CHCS) ensure all work documents are accurate and completed in full; maintain all records for a minimum period of two years
9. Quality Control/Quality Management requirements: Comply and participate in all Quality Control/Quality Management protocols and procedures as applicable to the tasks identified in this PWS. This includes (but is not limited to) performing Quality Control procedures applicable to testing performed and equipment used; reviewing and complying with established SOPs; and complying with all training, ongoing education, and safety requirements
10. Reporting and administrative requirements: this includes but is not limited to participating in result certification; report generation; and SOP review and modification as required by supervisor or designee; maintain a weekly epidemiological report of surveillance testing results and submit results every week to Public Health Command/GEIS representatives; assist in researching procedures, manuscripts, and documents related to disease surveillance.
11. Training and Safety: complies with all technical, MTF, and unit-specific training requirements.
12. External Training and Tracking Requirements: Participate in training to outlying clinics (as required); track related expenditures to project renewable costs; review weekly trends in results for submission to preventive medicine and host nation officials as needed; maintain and submit specimen surveys as required.
13. Specimen Tracking: Recruit submission of specimens from outlying clinics every week; ensure that specimen surveys are filled out and included with specimens; ensure that testing results are regularly submitted and received by participating clinics.
