We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (f/m/x) to join our Single Sign‑On Services Engineering team in Frankfurt or Berlin. This role combines strong backend engineering expertise with advanced production support and domain ownership.
You will work on highly scalable, security‑critical backend services supporting enterprise authentication and federated identity platforms. In addition to hands‑on development and deep debugging, you will act as a senior technical escalation point and a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for critical components of the SSO ecosystem.
This is a hands‑on role requiring strong backend development skills, excellent troubleshooting capability, and a proactive mindset to improve system reliability, resilience, and operational excellence.
Your key responsibilities
1. Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services supporting large‑scale SSO and identity platforms
2. Lead investigation and resolution of complex production incidents, ensuring rapid recovery and minimal business impact
3. Act as a technical escalation point (SL3) for SL1 and SL2 support teams
4. Perform deep dive debugging of Java services, SAML/OAuth2/OpenID Connect flows, and federation issues
5. Resolve complex issues across Java‑based services, APIs, and distributed systems
6. Work extensively with authentication and federation flows (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML)
7. Collaborate closely with Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to improve system reliability, observability, and performance
8. Analyse logs, metrics, and traces using monitoring and logging platforms (e.g. Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK)
9. Support release activities and validate production readiness of new features and deployments
10. Maintain and enhance runbooks, knowledge articles, and operational documentation
Your skills and experiences
11. Strong hands‑on experience in backend development using Java (Python or similar languages is an advantage)
12. Proven experience troubleshooting and supporting distributed, high‑availability systems in production
13. Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
14. Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerised workloads
15. Functional understanding of Identity & Access Management (IAM) tools like PingAM, PingIDM, PingDS and Keycloak.
16. Strong Linux knowledge with experience in shell scripting (Bash) and infrastructure‑level debugging
17. Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools (Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK, etc.)
18. Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work effectively under pressure
19. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across global teams
20. Fluent in English

Aufgaben
25. Design, Entwicklung und Wartung robuster Backend-Services für skalierbare SSO- und Identitätsplattformen
26. Leitung der Analyse und Behebung komplexer Produktionsstörungen mit Fokus auf schnelle Wiederherstellung und minimale Business-Auswirkungen
27. Übernahme der technischen Eskalationsfunktion (SL3) für SL1- und SL2-Support-Teams
28. Durchführung von Deep-Dive-Debugging in Java-Services sowie in SAML-, OAuth2- und OpenID-Connect-Föderationsflüssen
29. Lösung komplexer Probleme in Java-basierten Services, APIs und verteilten Systemen
30. Intensive Arbeit mit Authentifizierungs- und Föderationsprotokollen (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML)
31. Enge Zusammenarbeit mit Engineering-, DevOps- und Produktteams zur Verbesserung von Zuverlässigkeit, Observability und Performance
