Your Job:
This Master’s thesis involves the controlled creation and local characterisation of defects in heterostructures composed of altered transition metal dichalcogenides and magnetic materials.
The candidate will first optimise sample preparation and then use the plasma focused ion beam technique to investigate how ion beam irradiation parameters, such as ion beam current, affect defect formation. The defects will be analysed by using a combination of advanced transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopy methods, as well as Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence mapping.
Your key tasks:
1. Fabrication of heterostructures using mechanical stacking.
2. Optimisation of defect engineering in the heterostructures using the plasma focused ion beam technique.
3. Characterisation of defect sites using advanced microscopy and spectroscopy techniques
Your Profile:
4. You are studying physics, material sciences or a related subject at a university and are looking for a topic for a master`s thesis.
5. You are interested in and ideally also have previous knowledge in the fields of electron microscopy, solid state physics, and laser optics.
6. You can work independently and reponsibly, show commitment, a high level of teamwork, and enjoyment of cooperative collaboration.
7. Furthermore, you can quickly familiarize yourself with new methods and techniques.
8. You are fluent in written and spoken English.
Our Offer:
We work on highly topical, innovative topics and offer you the opportunity to actively shape change!
We offer you:
9. An interesting and socially relevant topic for your thesis with a future-oriented topic
