Every summer, KWS offers full-time internships (mandatory internships only) at our cereal breeding station in Bergen-Wohlde. These paid internships typically last at least one month – preferably longer – and take place between the end of April and October. During your internship, you will gain your first-on experience in practical plant breeding in one or more of the following areas:
1. Yield trials
2. Seed production
3. Line development
Your tasks
4. Conducting trait assessments and performing all technical tasks related to plant breeding
5. Supporting the team responsible for producing experimental seed in Italy
6. Practical work during the harvest of trials and inbred lines
7. Preparing and sowing experimental seeds
8. Working in seed processing
9. Participating in lectures on practical plant breeding and breeding station management (“summer school”)
Your profile
10. Enrolled Bachelor’s or Master’s student in agriculture, horticulture, or a similar field
11. Strong interest in practical plant breeding
12. Perseverance when working outdoors and in greenhouses under various weather conditions
13. Willingness and flexibility to work overtime during peak season
14. Strong sense of community and team spirit
15. Willingness to travel for short stays at external locations
16. Good English skills, basic German skills are an advantage
17. A driver’s license (Class B) is desirable
