The GWDG is looking to strengthen the storage team of the "IT Infrastructure" working group (AG I) with immediate effect for a
Storage Engineer (m/f/d)
with a regular working week of 39 hours. Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service (federal government); depending on qualifications, the classification is up to pay group TVöD E 13. The position is suitable for part-time work and is initially limited to two years with the option of extension. The GWDG is looking for a long-term cooperation.
The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) is a joint institution of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen Stiftung Öffentlichen Rechts and the Max Planck Society. It performs the function of a computing and IT competence center for the Max Planck Society and the university computing center for the University of Göttingen. Together with the University, the GWDG is one of nine computing centers in the National High Performance Computing Network (NHR) and one of four German AI service centers. The GWDG is also the service operator for the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The GWDG's scientific research tasks are in the field of applied computer science. It also promotes the training of specialists in information technology.
The GWDG operates several mass storage environments with a total capacity in the three-digit petabyte range in its modern data centers. These mass storage environments form the basis for a wide range of applications: File services, virtualization, container architectures based on Kubernetes as well as various applications from cutting-edge research with special requirements. Many large-scale projects and the proximity to science and research open up exciting opportunities for the creative further development of these state-of-the-art environments.
Areas of responsibility
* Collaboration in the GWDG storage team to ensure stable and high-quality operation of the various GWDG mass storage environments
* Conceptualization and further development of these environments with a high degree of independence and personal responsibility
* Consistent and continuous optimization through automation of processes (infrastructure-as-code)
* Advice for external and internal customers and independent management of corresponding projects
* Participation in 2nd/3rd level support
Requirements for
* Completed technical university degree (Master's/Diploma) or completed vocational training with adequate professional experience
* Programming/scripting knowledge (e.g. Python or comparable) or experience with infrastructure-as-code frameworks (e.g. Terraform, Puppet or Ansible)
* Sound knowledge of system administration under Linux
* A basic understanding of modern infrastructure concepts is desirable (SDN, SDS, SAN, S3, containers/Kubernetes, virtualization, etc.)
* Experience with one or more of the following products/systems is an advantage, but not mandatory: Ceph, NetApp FAS/AFF/E-Series, Quantum StorNext, Broadcom SAN switches
