What We Need:
The Black Information Network is the first and only 24/7 comprehensive national audio Black News service dedicated to providing an objective, accurate, and trusted source of continual news coverage with a Black voice and perspective.
Because news is always on, flexibility is a core requirement of this role. We’re looking for an Associate Editor who understands the realities of a 24/7 news cycle, including regular weekend shifts and occasional off-hours work tied to breaking news, developing stories, and major cultural moments.
This role sits at the intersection of real-time reporting, digital storytelling, and social-first thinking. It is highly collaborative by design, requiring close partnership with reporters, editors, audio teams, and social. At the same time, the Associate Editor is trusted to work independently, manage assignments, and make sound editorial decisions with a high level of autonomy.
We’re seeking a multimedia-minded journalist who knows that creating the story is only part of the job; sharing it responsibly and effectively across platforms is just as important.
What You'll Do:
8. Write, edit, and publish a high volume of news and culture content daily, from breaking stories to reported features
9. Edit copy quickly and cleanly, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and strong headlines under tight deadlines
10. Collaborate closely with editorial, audio, and social teams to ensure cohesive, timely coverage across platforms
11. Identify emerging stories and angles relevant to Black audiences and elevate them with context
12. Package stories with compelling headlines, visuals, and captions optimized for web and social distribution
13. Publish and promote your own work across BIN’s social platforms, following best practices for each channel
14. Participate in real-time coverage during breaking news moments, coordinating closely with teammates
15. Apply SEO and tagging best practices to improve discoverability without sacrificing voice or integrity
16. Monitor performance and audience response to help inform coverage and editorial decisions
What You'll Need:
What We’re Looking For
17. A strong writer and editor with sound editorial judgment
18. A genuine love of news, current events, and cultural conversation
19. A collaborative communicator who works well across teams and disciplines
20. Equally comfortable working independently and contributing to team-driven coverage
21. A multimedia-first mindset with an understanding of how journalism lives across web, audio, and social
22. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
23. Adaptable and responsive during breaking news and evolving coverage
Experience & Qualifications
24. 1–3 years of experience in digital journalism, web producing, or content creation
25. Proven experience writing and editing online content, including articles, headlines, and social copy
26. Familiarity with CMS publishing tools and basic image editing (Photoshop or similar)
27. Working knowledge of SEO, tagging, and content optimization best practices
28. Experience publishing or promoting content on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, and emerging networks
29. Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field preferred, but not required with strong experience

Compensation:
Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data.
