THE ROLE OVERVIEW
As Global head of Grid, you will lead and manage the Grid Connection team, comprised of grid connection managers and grid connection engineers, overseeing the development and implementation of grid connection solutions for renewable energy projects. This is a strategic role with significant responsibility and visibility across the organisation.
TASKS
* Lead and develop the grid connection team.
* Develop and implement processes in the grid connection team.
* Manage grid applications and approvals with DSOs/TSOs.
* Secure grid connection approvals with DSOs/TSOs.
* Develop strategies and create cost-effective grid connection solutions for renewable energy projects (BESS, PV, etc.)
* Coordinate substation projects and active installations.
* Build and execute grid connection strategy for portfolio projects.
* Oversee substation projects, commissioning, and certification.
* Coordinate with grid operators, service providers, and internal teams.
* Deliver technical input for commercial risk assessment and cost optimization.
* Coordinate internal grid engineering resources and external consultants
* Prepare technical specifications and tender documents.
* Perform grid calculations and evaluate concepts economically.
* Manage power system studies using PSSC, PSCAD, and similar simulation tools.
* Oversee commissioning and certification processes.
* Report regularly to management and technical leadership.
PROFILE
* Degree in electrical engineering (power systems focus preferred)
* 10+ years hands-on experience with utility-scale grid connections for renewables
* Solid understanding of substation and cable design, electrical safety systems, plant controls and metering.
* Able to review grid studies and turn the findings into clear design and construction actions.
* Strong commercial skills to agree scope, costs, guarantees and supplier contracts.
* Clear communicator who aligns engineers, project managers, contractors and authorities.
* Fluent in English, with a full driving licence and willingness to travel.
* Solid understanding of grid connection planning and HV systems.
* Proven ability to work with regulators, utilities, and project investors
* Strong network within DSOs/TSOs.
* Experience with grid calculation software (e.g., PowerFactory, PSS SINCAL, PSCAD etc.).
* Proven leadership and team management experience
* Strong knowledge of grid connection planning for renewable energy projects
* Familiarity with current standards and norms (VDE-AR-N 4110, VDE-AR-N 4120, etc.)
* Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management experience
* Experience leading technical teams and external consultants
* Excellent communication and project management skills
