This is a principal-level hands-on individual contributor role with significant technical leadership responsibilities. You will design and deliver cloud-native backend services and AI-enabled capabilities that power our Test & Measurement platform. You will evaluate and adopt modern AI / ML frameworks, architectures, and development methodologies, driving best practices for scalable, high-quality software and model integration.
In this role, you will also build and evaluate LLM-driven product features, including prompt engineering, context design, retrieval strategies, and robust LLM integration into user-facing Test & Measurement workflows. As a senior technical leader, you will guide teams on model usage, quality, reliability, and maintainability.
You will additionally help customers leverage the full value of NI’s data platforms by applying advanced AI and machine learning methods to solve domain-specific challenges across engineering and industrial IoT applications.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
1. Flexibly contribute across the stack as needed, using the latest AI coding tools
2. Rapidly prototype AI-enabled features, iterating from concept → demo → product
3. Collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, developers, and sales to solve complex customer problems cross-org including research and development teams
4. Design & develop AI models from research to production, create solutions across diverse use cases, from tabular ML to deep learning, computer vision, analysis, and generative AI
5. Continuously learn and develop new skills as you technically lead projects across a variety of use cases as well as AI methodologies, algorithms, and technologies

For This Role, You Will Need:
6. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering, or related field; Master's or PhD preferred
7. + Years extensive professional software development experience including technical leadership in complex systems and making high-stakes architectural decisions
8. Hands- on experience building cloud native software (Azure, AWS, GCP) and using technologies such as ClickHouse or Snowflake
9. Hands‑on experience of AI integration into workflows (, prompt/context engineering, RAG, fine tuning, agentic harnesses, building MCP servers, etc.)
10. Hands-on experience using agentic AI coding environments (, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.)
11. Experience in AI deployment & lifecycle (, model deployment, monitoring, evaluation, lifecycle management, etc.)
12. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence technical strategy across teams and levels
