We are looking for two engineers to help with the user engagement of the Destination Earth Data Lake (DEDL) project for our customer EUMETSAT.
Destination Earth is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly-accurate digital model of the Earth (a digital twin of the Earth) to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena, hazards and the related human activities. These groundbreaking features assist users in designing accurate and actionable adaptation strategies and mitigation measures.
DestinE unlocks the potential of digital modelling of the Earth system at a level that represents a real breakthrough in terms of accuracy, local detail, access-to-information speed and interactivity.
Responsibilities
The activities of the service are as follows:
* DEDL User Engagement, Engagement Planning – to extend the user bases of the Destination Earth Data Lake
* Organizing Destination Earth user engagement events, workshops and trainings.
* Working with users to document and communicate use cases and services development experiences in DEDL.
* Identifying and engaging with communities suitable for DestinE Data Lake (fire, biodiversity, marine etc.) to encourage further exploitation of DEDL, working within the partnership approaches of DestinE.
* Taking part in the regular partnership meeting with implementing partners.
* Destination Earth Data Lake user support and user training
* Reviewing user requests from DestinE community website and DestinE service desk, and coordinating replies for DEDL related questions.
* Supporting user on-boarding requests in DestinE Edge services.
* Contributing to the moderation of DestinE community forum (with a DEDL support focus).
* Providing input into DestinE partner organised webinars.
* Reviewing the DEDL user facing information, and propose revisions and implement as required.
* Articulating and excercising the training action plan from the internal engagement and training strategy.
* Creating user training materials and organise interventions (live sessions; notebooks; user workflow example based on developed use cases, community discussions).
* Supporting integration of DEDL user training materials into DestinE platform training section (e.g. Massive Open Online Courses with ESA chosen solution).
* Destination Earth User Exchange Coordination
* Contributing to the DestinE user exchange events through programme preparation and design, being a member of programme commitee, motivate user and stakeholder presentations, review of abstracts and posters, organise sessions (including training) and logistics.
* For the EUMETSAT hosted User Exchange #6, in addition to the above contribute to the logistical planning, event communication and onsite management of the event.
Qualifications & Competencies
We are seeking candidates who can match as many of the following skills as possible:
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
* Master's degree or equivalent from an institution of higher education.
* Be able to work fluently in English and French.
* Experience with User Engagement within a scientific related discipline.
* Experience in coordinating between different project entities to support user feedback uptake and user issue management.
* Instructional design within a professional development and adult learning context in particular, with an understanding of the application of learning theories and community learning.
* Significant technical experience to support users with the services provided by DEDL.
* An understanding of DestinE, EUMETSAT, and training in the earth system or scientific/technical context is an advantage but not essential.
This is a full-time position to be located at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, starting ASAP.
