💼 Role and Responsibilities:
In this role, you'll own the core services that sit between our agent runtime and the rest of the platform: orchestration, document ingestion pipelines, vector and structured stores, queues, observability, and the APIs our customers' systems integrate with. The work is a mix of building new capabilities and making existing systems hold up under order-of-magnitude traffic growth without sacrificing latency, correctness, or audibility.
You’ll shape how a fast-growing platform handles its next 10–100× of traffic, rather than maintaining a mature one. The workload is genuinely novel, spanning agent-driven, document-heavy, cross-tenant, and regulated environments. The engineering organization is still small enough that senior individual contributors set direction, not just execute.
You should expect to:
* Design and ship services that handle high-throughput, high-fan-out agent workloads across multiple customer tenants
* Diagnose and remove bottlenecks in data pipelines, queues, databases, and LLM/vision-model call paths
* Harden the platform for regulated deployment: tenant isolation, audit trails, deterministic replay, confidence scoring
* Own services end-to-end: architecture, rollout, SLOs, on-call, postmortems
* Mentor mid-level engineers and raise the bar on design reviews and code reviews
😊 About You
* 6+ years building and operating production distributed systems at scale (millions of requests/day, or equivalent transactional workloads)
* Strong production experience with Python and TypeScript- the two languages the platform is built in
* Deep experience with at least two of: Postgres at scale, Kafka/Pulsar/SQS-class messaging, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, a vector DB (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant)
* Production experience on Azure, GCP, and/or AWS, including multi-tenant and customer-tenant deployment models
* Fluency with Kubernetes, IaC, and modern CI/CD
* Experience shipping in a regulated environment (finance, insurance, healthcare, or similar) - or a strong signal that you'd thrive there
* Based in Europe and able to overlap comfortably with an European working day
Nice to have
* Experience with LLM/agent runtimes, tool-use orchestration, evals, or prompt/context engineering in production
* Exposure to OCR, document understanding, or computer vision pipelines
* Prior role at an enterprise-B2B company selling into financial services or insurance
* Open-source contributions in the infra, data, or LLM space
* Enthusiasm for co-creating a modern Continuous Delivery environment grounded in trunk-based development, TDD, and pair/ensemble programming.
Motivated for the Agentic Coding age
Otera is an agentic company building agentic software, and we expect our engineers to use AI coding agents as a core part of how they work- not as a novelty. You should be comfortable driving Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or similar in real workflows: decomposing work for agents, reviewing their output critically, writing specs that agents can execute against, and knowing when to take the keyboard back.
Candidates who are skeptical of LLMs in engineering workflows are welcome to apply, but the bar for "I've tried it and here's what I learned" is much higher than "I haven't really used it."
