We are seeking a person with an internationally recognized artistic practice for this position. Task of the professorship is to supervise the two-semester foundation course for the visual arts and art education. This is intended to familiarise students with the complexity of artistic questions and processes in theory and practice.
Applicants must demonstrate an exceptional and unique body of artistic work and several years of exhibition experience. Their teaching, based on their own interests, should expose the diverse group of students in the Foundation Class to the broad spectrum of visual art over a wide variety of media. Alongside university-level didactic skills and extensive practical experience, the applicant is also required to possess well-grounded knowledge of contemporary discourses in visual art. In addition, they will oversee and further develop the complex organization of the foundation area of studies. Participation in the further conceptual development of the foundation course and the program in Visual Arts is expected.
It should be noted that the teaching formats at the Kunsthochschule Kassel encourage encounters between students from both Art Education and those from Visual Arts – which is viewed, as a rule, as mutually enriching for everyone.
Alongside research, artistic work, and teaching, the duties of the position also include promoting and encouraging the school's Artistic Associates. For this reason, skills in collaborating and cooperating with a team consisting of several persons are required.
The applicant must fulfill the following requirements:
an exceptional and unique body of artistic work,
several years of experience with international exhibitions, represented by two solo exhibitions in recognized institutions (for instance art associations or museums, with a publication) or by three exhibition reviews in recognized magazines or journals,
pedagogical aptitude, demonstrated by at least two years of teaching experience at art schools,
a qualified, independent teaching concept,
cooperation with the Artistic Associates, working together on overseeing and further developing the foundation area,
cooperation on the continued development of the Kunsthochschule,
meaningful addition to the teaching positions at the Kunsthochschule,
ability to strengthen the international renown of the Kunsthochschule,
experience in academic self-management.
The current teaching load of the professorship is a total of 18 semester hours per week (pursuant to LVerpflV HE, the Hessian Teaching Obligation Ordinance), which can be fulfilled in the department of Visual Arts by overseeing one class. The profile of the Kunsthochschule includes direct contact between the programs Visual Arts, Art Education, Art History and Aesthetics, Visual Communication, and Product Design, which collaborate in exchange with the student workshops.
The duties of the position include participating in academic self-management and in committee work, which is primarily conducted in German. The prerequisites for employment and performance requirements are determined by
67, 68 of the Higher Education Act of the Federal State of Hesse.
To be submitted: a teaching concept (max. two pages) as well as a description of your own artistic practice (max. two pages). The teaching concept should provide information on your pedagogical approaches to university teaching as well as your reflections on cooperative and cross-divisional work in teaching. You should also explain how the breadth of the profile and the contents defined there will be conveyed in your teaching. Alongside these documents, you should also submit a statement of purpose, a CV, any relevant certificates, and a portfolio.
