Beschreibung
We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with a completed or soon-to-be completed PhD in a relevant field, strong computational biology background and track record in analysis, integration and interpretation of 'omics datasets, in particular epigenomics, single cell genomics, proteomics data.
We are offering a postdoc position (TV-L, 100%), to be filled as soon as possible, in a project elucidating the mechanisms of decision-making in cellular models of mammalian development using rapid perturbation biology and 'omics and single cell readouts funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The project will deepen our understanding of functional cell states present in early mammalian development and will seek to explain how key lineage choices are made. For example, we are using genetic and pharmacologic perturbations of human embryonic stem cells in combination with bulk and single cell transcriptomic and epigenomic readouts, in cellulo and in silico transcription factor footprinting and other cutting edge techniques to delineate mechanisms of early cell fate decisions.
University of Freiburg consistently ranks as one of the top 10 universities in Germany in education and research (e.g. 5th of 51 universities in the ARWU The Faculty of Biology scores particularly well in attracting competitive research funding and houses two Excellence Clusters funded by the Excellence Strategy of the German government. The Elsässer Group ) recently relocated from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, to the University of Freiburg. The international, dynamic and collaborative team focuses on technology-driven discovery research, combining synthetic biology approaches with 'omics' and single cell methodologies to elucidate mechanisms of signal processing, gene expression regulation and chromosome biology.
Within the Elsässer Group, you will be immersed in a dedicated training and research environment that strives to pursue bold and creative ideas through a culture of collegiality, trust, and openness, where diverse perspectives are valued and collaboration fuels innovation. Located at the modern Signalhaus, also home of the Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies Excellence Cluster, the laboratories offer state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation for cutting edge research and technology development.
We offer:
* Postdoc position with salary according to TV-L (E13, 100 %)
* An exciting research program with the possibility to participate in many ongoing projects generating different 'omics datasets
* A world-class research environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and core facilities
* A stimulating community of Signaling and Epigenetics spanning the CIBSS Cluster of Excellence, the University Clinic and the Max Planck Institute for Epigenetics
* Further training opportunities in form of courses, workshops and participation in research conferences
Your duties:
* To analyse, integrate various types of 'omics datasets using existing or custom-made pipelines
* Generate reproducible analyses workflows following the FAIR principle, conduct statistical tests, visualize data
* To proactively communicate with wet and dry lab colleagues in order to jointly interpreting results, developing and testing new hypotheses
* To develop new data analysis and integration strategies, including exploration of new ML/AI approaches.
* To implement tools and frameworks for data explorations and sharing, such as shiny apps
* To acquire or deepen knowledge in mammalian developmental gene regulation, epigenetics and signal transduction.
* To participate in data management and IT maintenance activities
* To diligently document, present and discuss your results at scientific conferences and as peer-reviewed publications
Your profile:
* PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or related subject area
* Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in proteomics / mass spectrometry or (epi)genomics data analysis
* Proficiency in Unix, R, Python and/or additional programming languages
* Knowledge of ML/AI-based methods are advantageous
* High proficiency in English (written and oral)
* Motivation, self-organization and team player skills
