Job Description
We are currently seeking a Loss and Damage Expert to support and strengthen our regional expertise on loss and damage in the Pacific. The position is remote with a strong preference for locations in the Pacific.
Key Responsibilities
* Under the supervision of the Head of Climate Diplomacy, and in close collaboration with the global Climate Diplomacy Team, the Senior Policy Expert’s key responsibilities will include:
* Bringing in-depth regional policy knowledge and expertise on Loss and Damage and an understanding of linkages between the regional context, negotiations on Loss and Damage under the UNFCCC and developments in related fora including the Loss and Damage Fund Board.
* Providing technical advice on loss and damage work being undertaken by Climate Analytics, particularly under the Building Our Loss and Damage Response (BOLD) Project
* Developing and maintaining a detailed understanding of climate policy in Pacific countries
* Complementing policy expertise from Research Analysts in Climate Analytics Berlin and Australia offices.
* Regional anchorage of expertise, ideally having standing experience in regional policy-making related to Loss and Damage in the Pacific
Your profile
You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:
* A Masters degree in climate science, international diplomacy, political science or a related field
* Minimum seven years of experience, preferably more, within climate diplomacy, loss and damage and the UNFCCC processes
* Demonstrable experience working in the Pacific region, particularly with Pacific governments or intergovernmental agencies
* High-level analytical skills
* Strong quantitative skills and an interest in international loss and damage discourse
* Motivated, hard-working, solution-orientated, flexible with a high level of professional integrity.
* Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently
* Excellent English writing and verbal skills
