Engineer in Charge – Reutlingen
Are you a driven, hands-on engineer with a strong background in high-tech equipment—ideally semiconductor tools—and ready to take ownership in a fast-growing environment? We’re hiring an Engineer in Charge (EIC) to join at a crucial time ahead of a major ramp-up project at one of the most significant sites in Europe for a global leader in the industry.
This permanent position is based onsite in Reutlingen and offers a unique opportunity to lead, mentor, and influence across engineering teams, customer relationships, and internal tech strategy.
What you’ll do:
* Be the go-to technical lead onsite, reporting into senior leadership just two levels below the CEO.
* Coordinate between factory, customer, and local engineers, ensuring smooth execution of upgrades, escalations, and installations.
* Support a diverse team of engineers – coach, develop, and lead by example.
* Collaborate on problem-solving and root cause analysis with the customer and factory support teams.
* Manage key discussions around performance, downtime, and process stability, acting as the voice of the site.
* Take part in strategic ramp-ups as the site scales over the next 18 months.
* Work closely with other European sites and the US factory in the early stages to get fully embedded into the role.
We’re looking for someone who:
* Has solid experience in semiconductors, life sciences, aviation or working with complex, high-value equipment.
* Ideally, someone brings semiconductor tool knowledge – but if not, they can support upskilling.
* Has people management experience, able to earn respect from seasoned engineers and customers alike.
* Can navigate ambiguity and find structure in grey areas—resilience and discipline are key.
* Is customer-facing, capable of leading difficult conversations and managing expectations tactfully.
* Speaks fluent English (German a plus, or a willingness to learn).
