I am partnered with a high-tech start-up focused on efficient solutions for high-speed data transmission in hyper-scale data centres and artificial-intelligence (AI) clusters. This technology complements highly scalable silicon photonic circuits by engineered organic electro-optic materials for manipulation/modulation of light. As Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for both the RF and the optical design of our modulator PICs. Your responsibility will comprise aspects of technical design, communication and exchange with partners. Responsibilities You will take technical leadership in the development, fabrication, and testing of advanced silicon-organic-hybrid (SOH) photonic integrated circuits (PIC) You should have a strong focus on ultra-high-speed electro-optic modulators, which are key to advanced transceiver architectures. Your team will work on optical and RF simulations and design of high-speed electro-optic modulators and their packaging You will drive the development and integration of mm-wave interfaces and fanout boards, as well as on the characterization of devices and circuits using state of-the-art test equipment. You will lead projects with our technology partners, define technical road maps, drive business development, and help set up an effective and inspiring working environment. You will build and mentor a high-performing, interdisciplinary team and play a key role in shaping the technical vision at the international forefront of photonics innovation. Your Profile PhD or experienced MSc in the field of RF or electrical engineering, physics, photonics, or related disciplines. Strong theoretical and experimental background in PIC design or mm-wave device & circuit design as well as associated manufacturing and testing techniques. Proficiency with industry-standard tools for PIC design (e.g., Lumerical, CST, RSoft…) Proficiency with industry-standard tools for RF circuits (e.g., Ansys HFSS, CST, …) Experience in PIC design, organization of tape-outs, and interaction with foundry partners, ideally in an industrial context Experience in optical communications Proven experience as a project and/or team leader in high-tech research and development How does this opportunity sound to you? Following your application, Amelia Pudney will discuss the opportunity with you in detail. She will happily answer any queries surrounding the opportunity and the potential for career growth.
