Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Hamburg
Our client, one of Europe’s fastest-growing independent power producers in the renewable energy space, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its team. In this role, you will manage high-impact M&A transactions across Europe, supporting the acquisition and development of renewable energy assets including solar, wind, and storage. Working closely with a highly skilled investment team, you’ll be responsible for negotiating key transaction documents, coordinating due diligence, managing external counsel, and advising on legal strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead or support legal aspects of M&A transactions, including due diligence, negotiation, and contract execution.
* Provide independent legal support to the investment team during the acquisition of renewable energy projects across Europe.
* Oversee and manage contract negotiations, coordinate legal due diligence processes, and critically assess advice provided by external legal counsel.
* Collaborate with internal teams to assess legal and commercial risks and support decision-making on project investments.
* Offer legal guidance on regulatory and permitting matters during the early development phases of solar, wind, and battery storage projects.
* Advise internal stakeholders on evolving renewable energy legislation, regulatory updates, and compliance issues.
* Design and deliver training sessions on legal topics for teams across various departments.
* Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and support strategic legal projects in collaboration with technical, commercial, and finance teams.
* Act as a liaison between internal departments and external legal advisors, coordinating international and domestic legal counsel.
Your Profile:
* Fully qualified lawyer with strong academic credentials, having passed both state examinations with above-average results.
* Minimum of 4–5 years’ experience in renewable energy and/or M&A transactions, preferably within a major law firm or in-house legal department of an energy or investment-focused organisation.
* Strong understanding of corporate law, contract law, and energy regulation.
* Confident communicator with a proactive, analytical, and solution-driven mindset.
* Fluent in English and German.
* Demonstrates high levels of integrity, reliability, and team orientation.
* Proven ability to manage negotiations and provide commercially informed legal advice.
