At the Institute of Data Science in Jena, we are working on making the data backbone a reality for all DLR application areas (aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security). To this end, we develop and research methods in interdisciplinary work focussing on applications such as sustainable and circular processes, resilient supply chains, data-driven value chains or robust decision support. The methods developed in this way are applied in cooperation with other DLR institutes and external partners, either as part of joint projects or as part of technology transfer activities.
What awaits you
In the "Information Extraction and Interoperability" working group, we research and develop innovative and practical solutions for digitisation and mitigating incompatibility in communication between different areas.
This position involves the development of methods and tools for information extraction, with a focus on 3D CAD data. Furthermore, this position deals with the computer-interpretable modelling of machine capabilities and the resulting matching of components with machines suitable for their manufacture.
Your Tasks
* Literature research and evaluation of existing solutions for information extraction from CAD files (primarily STEP) and for matching component properties with manufacturing or assembly machines
* Further development and from scratch implementation of solutions for the above-mentioned problems
* Collaboration in projects: understanding requirements, presenting results, agreeing on procedures
* Publication of results at scientific conferences, internally at DLR and to the general public
* Supervision of student work
Your Qualifications
* Completed university degree (Master's/Diploma) in engineering (e.g. mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, engineering informatics) or other courses relevant to the position.
* Expertise and practical experience in robotics and/or automated assembly, including end effectors, tools, process flows and constraints
* Confident use of CAD, including at the data level, e.g. STEP, metadata, tolerances
* Ability to systematically record technical requirements and constraints and convert them into testable rules and parameters
* Programming skills, e.g. Python, for creating your own scripts for data preparation, analysis and prototyping
* Experience in modelling semantic models
* Very good written and spoken English
We look forward to getting to know you!
