Overview
Gallagher Re is seeking a highly motivated junior to mid-level Lawyer to join our growing in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will possess good legal skills with a desire to build their commercial knowledge by working in fast paced global business.
This varied role will involve advising on legal matters relating to the Gallagher Re business in EMEA. Using your knowledge of commercial and (re)insurance law, you will provide advice and contract interpretation, drafting and negotiation support on transactions with a broad range of trading partners and suppliers. From time to time, you may also be required to provide other legal support for Gallagher Re, including support and advice on E&Os and disputes.
How you'll make an impact
Core duties
* Providing legal representation for Gallagher Re on strategic and transformational projects.
* Acting as a legal intermediary between the business and external counsel.
* Drafting documents, letters and contracts tailored to the individual needs of the issue.
* Effectively manage high volume/wide breadth of legal matters across EMEA and beyond.
* Supporting the global reinsurance business on strategic projects.
* Provide support to senior lawyers within the Gallagher Re legal team.
* Drafting and/or reviewing a broad range of standard/non-standard form contracts including but not limited to key contracts such as NDAs, client services agreements, reinsurer TOBAs, intermediary TOBAs, co-broking agreements, relationship dividend agreements, and other commercial agreements which may be required from time to time.
Service Delivery
* Advising the business on the law and legal issues, working with all levels of business individual (including senior management team).
* Corresponding with opposing counsel.
* Attending meetings and negotiations with counterparties.
* Building relationships within Gallagher Re’s businesses and senior management within EMEA.
* Provide legal training to trainees, paralegals and non-lawyers.
* Providing accurate and practical advice reflecting German law, but also guidance on matters involving other legal systems and jurisdictions.
Operational Process and development
* Referring matters to the Senior Counsel or the General Counsel where appropriate.
* Supervising and delegating work to legal process outsource providers and offshore group resource as appropriate.
* Ensuring material legal issues are progressed with all relevant internal stakeholders and finalise all required documentation in a timely manner.
* Developing legal templates, guidance notes, playbooks and delivering efficiency initiatives to improve service delivery.
* Keeping up to date with changes and developments in the law.
About you
Qualifications
* Successfully passed the first and second state exam (Volljurist/-in).
* German qualified lawyer with admission to practice law in Germany.
* Additional qualifications (Dr., LL.M., etc.) are desirable but not essential.
Technical Knowledge
* Knowledge of the (re)insurance industry is highly desirable.
* Excellent command of German (native) and English (C1 or equivalent).
* Proficiency in a third language is desirable but not essential.
* Knowledge of corporate, commercial law and civil procedure.
* Provide legal advice on German and international law matters.
* Data protection/ privacy knowledge is desirable.
* Project management experience is desirable.
Experience
* A practising lawyer (either in-house or private practice) is essential.
* Ideally 1- 4 years PQE.
* Financial services sector experience, is highly desirable.
* Desire to work in a global business evidenced by international secondments and internships and participation on the Erasmus or Leonardo Programmes.
Skills/other
* Strong problem solving and communication skills.
* Commercial awareness.
* Ability to deliver under pressure against tight deadlines.
