The job
In the Microbiome Biology group of the Department of Molecular Toxicology in Leipzig, we invite applications for a PhD Position (f/m/x) to research in the project METAMIC 3 (Metaproteome-based leveraged microbiome management in the context of One Health) which is funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network.
Your tasks
* You work in a group that works with mass spectrometer
* You extract whole proteomes from microbial cultures, human matrices and perform metaproteome applications
* You study the influence of microbial effectors in continuous stirred reactors (in vitro bioreactors) using a simplified human gut microbiome model (SIHUMIx) and to separate the soluble and particle-bound bacteria and measure their abundance, composition and their molecular functions using metaproteomics
* You present results at international conferences and prepare publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Your profile
* Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in environmental sciences, (eco)toxicology, bioanalysis, or related areas
* Experience in analytical chemistry
* Skills in IT and modelling with a focus on toxicity models
* Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team or similar
* Proficiency in scientific English (written and spoken)
* Willingness to spend several months at other institutions abroad. The project envisages the following secondments: three months at CEBAS-CSIC (F. Bastida) to study the stability of antibiotic resistance species in nature (soil) and three months at AUAS (D. Benndorf) to investigate further biotechnologically relevant bioprocesses
Furthermore, candidates have to fully comply with the following essential eligibility criteria:
* Academic Qualification: The applicant must hold a relevant master's degree or equivalent and must have obtained the degree or equivalent by the DC start date
* In order to be recruited to the network as a doctoral candidate, applicants must not already be in possession of a doctoral degree (i.e. a Ph.D. degree)
* Conditions of international mobility of researchers: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their recruiting organization (Germany) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment
