Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence ‚CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter‘- Photoinduced Superconductivity: The Role of Charge-Density-Waves and Pseudogap” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG
InstitutionCluster of Excellence „CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter“ (photon and nanosciences), Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Physics
Salary level
Start date01.01.2026, fixed for a period of two years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).
Application deadline13.11.2025
Scope of workfull-time position suitable for part-time
Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
A key task will be the systematic investigation of photoinduced superconducting dynamics in high-Tc cuprates. The ultimate goal of this project is to unravel the role played by preexisting change-density-wave and pseudogap states and by their possible ultrafast melting in the emergence of optically-driven superconductivity.
The research associate will implement novel advanced photoexcitation schemes in the mid-infared, in combination with ultrafast probing techniques ranging from linear and nonlinear time-domain terahertz spectroscopy to second harmonic generation. There will be the option to combine these approaches with the application of strong magnetic fields and external pressure.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field.
 1. A PhD in a relevant field or a strong record in scientific work equivalent to a PhD degree,
 2. experience in the design and implementation of intense ultrafast mid-infrared sources based on optical parametric amplifiers,
 3. expertise with spectroscopic techniques in the terahertz range and their application in pump-probe experiments,
 4. strong competence in the analysis of the optical response functions of complex materials and their interpretation.
We offer
 5. Reliable remuneration based on wage agreements
 6. Continuing education opportunities
