Role Overview
We are seeking a Horizontal Transport Expert – Automated Systems to join our Terminal Automation Project team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, integrating, and optimizing automated horizontal transport solutions i(e.g., ARMGs, ASC, AGVs, ALVs, and other automated equipment) to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations at our port terminals.
This is a key technical expert role, requiring deep knowledge of Operational Technology (OT), automation systems, and mechanical engineering in the context of heavy equipment and transport solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide subject matter expertise on automated horizontal transport systems, including design, testing, commissioning, and operational handover.
* Evaluate, specify, and integrate automated guided vehicles (AGVs), straddle carriers, shuttle carriers, and related automated equipment into terminal operations.
* Collaborate with system integrators, OEMs, and engineering partners to ensure compliance with safety, performance, and reliability requirements.
* Define technical requirements and support procurement activities for automated transport solutions.
* Lead root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex issues related to OT, automation, and mechanical systems.
* Ensure that automated systems integrate seamlessly with the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and other control layers.
* Develop and implement operational best practices for horizontal transport automation.
* Train and mentor junior engineers and operations staff in the use and maintenance of automated systems.
* Contribute to risk assessments, safety studies, and compliance with international port automation standards.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum 6 years of professional experience in Operational Technology (OT) and Automation (preferably in container port terminals)
* Minimum 6 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering with strong exposure to heavy machinery, drive systems, or transport systems.
* Proven track record in automation projects (design, commissioning, optimization, lifecycle support).
* Strong knowledge of PLCs, industrial networks, sensors, and control systems.
* Hands-on experience with automated vehicles, cranes, or comparable automated transport solutions.
* Familiarity with standards for machine safety (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849) and cybersecurity in OT.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced project environment.
* Excellent communication skills in English; German is an advantage.
