Role Overview:
The Permit to Work (PTW) Coordinator is responsible for managing and controlling the permit-to-work system on a live data centre construction site. This role ensures that all high-risk activities are properly assessed, authorized, and executed in accordance with site safety protocols and client requirements. The PTW Coordinator acts as a gatekeeper for safe work practices, ensuring that construction teams operate within clearly defined boundaries and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Permit System Administration
• Operate and maintain the site’s Permit to Work system, ensuring all permits are correctly issued, tracked, and closed.
• Review permit applications for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with approved method statements and risk assessments.
• Ensure permits are issued only after appropriate safety checks and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
• Work Coordination & Safety Assurance
• Coordinate daily permit meetings with construction supervisors, subcontractors, and safety officers.
• Prevent conflicting activities by managing permit schedules and identifying overlapping work zones.
• Ensure that isolation procedures (electrical, mechanical, etc.) are verified before issuing permits for high-risk work.
• Site Monitoring & Compliance
• Conduct regular site inspections to verify that permitted works are being carried out safely and in accordance with permit conditions.
• Stop work or escalate issues when unsafe practices or permit violations are observed.
• Maintain a visible presence on site to support teams and reinforce PTW protocols.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of all issued, active, and closed permits.
• Generate daily and weekly reports on permit activity, trends, and compliance metrics.
• Support incident investigations by providing permit history and documentation.Stakeholder Engagement
•Liaise with construction managers, safety officers, and client representatives to ensure alignment on PTW processes.
• Provide training and guidance to subcontractors and new site personnel on PTW procedures.
• Continuously improve the PTW system based on feedback and lessons learned.
Digital Permit Systems:
The role requires proficiency in electronic, cloud-based permit-to-work platforms to streamline workflows, enhance traceability, and support real-time coordination across teams. The preferred system for this project is Datascope, which offers robust functionality for issuing, tracking, and auditing permits. Experience with Datascope or similar platforms (e.g., Zutec, HammerTech, or FieldView) is highly advantageous.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a PTW coordination role on large-scale construction projects.
• Prior experience on data centre builds or other mission-critical infrastructure is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of high-risk construction activities including hot works, confined space entry, electrical isolation, and working at height.
• Familiarity with digital PTW systems, ideally Datascope.
Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, especially in high-pressure environments.
• Proactive approach to safety and risk mitigation.
• Ability to interpret method statements, risk assessments, and technical drawings.
• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability.
