Duties Description Under direct supervision of the Professional Engineer 2 (Industrial), the incumbent will review, evaluate, and develop recommendations, implement determination on variance petitions associate with public and private sector programs and provide expert engineering consultation on safety and health matters to the Division of Safety and Health staff. The incumbent will meet and deal with the public, professional engineers, architects and other professional consultants and represent the Commissioner of Labor, when requested, in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings pertaining to the Labor Law and OSHA Standards and Industrial Code Rules. The incumbent will assist at public hearing on revised and new standards and providing additional technical information. Occasional travel is required and satisfactory means of transportation is necessary.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, if they meet the below NY HELPS minimum qualifications.
NY HELPS Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; OR a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.
Qualifying degrees: Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Forest Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Soil and Water Resources Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.
Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience involving one or more of the following: asbestos, mold, building construction and demolition, or mechanical machinery design or operation.

70.1 TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS: One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Salary Grade 22 or higher determined to be similar by Civil Service.
