As our new People Community Officer, you’ll help us deliver an outstanding employee experience across the Germany Network.

Main purpose of job:

What you will do?

In this varied and impactful role, you will:

1. Deliver high‑quality HR administration - Manage contracts, documentation, and HR processes with accuracy and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with policies and local labour requirements.
2. Support onboarding and offboarding processes - Coordinate smooth employee transitions, maintaining clear processes and up‑to‑date records.
3. Support accreditation for UK‑based staff - Work with external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate processing of diplomatic accreditation.
4. Be a key point of contact for new arrivals - Provide clear guidance and resources to help colleagues settle into life and work in Germany.
5. Maintain critical HR systems and data - Keep trackers, records, and shared systems accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready.
6. Contribute to improving the employee experience - Support wider Corporate Services initiatives that enhance how the Embassy operates and supports its people.
7. Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Embassy, including crisis work.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Our Ideal Candidate shows:

13. Proficient spoken and written English (minimum C1 level, CEFR framework) and at least an intermediate level of spoken German (minimum B1, CEFR framework);
14. A minimum of two years’ experience in an administrative or HR role, ideally involving onboarding, documentation, or employee lifecycle management;
15. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a clear customer-service focus and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
16. Reliability, integrity and professionalism, with the ability to handle sensitive information and pressurised situations calmly and appropriately;
17. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines;
18. Proven IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, MS Teams) and experience using AI tools such as MS Copilot;
19. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team objectives;
20. Ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Nice to have:

21. Experience working in an international or diplomatic environment;
22. Basic knowledge of German labour law and social insurance systems;
23. Basic knowledge of UK national insurance would be an advantage;
24. Good understanding of challenges faced by staff relocating overseas;
25. Experience in People Operations or Employee Engagement roles.

This is a full time (37,5 hours a week), fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary € 52,704. - rising to a maximum of approx. € 59,202. - gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable). Candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
