About us
Colloids and interfaces consist of very small or thin structures with linear dimensions between nanometers and micrometers. On the one hand, the possible structures represent a "world of hidden dimensions". On the other hand, the dynamics and structures of these small entities determine the behavior of much larger systems such as organisms.
The Department of Biomolecular Systems (Director Prof. Seeberger) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (MPICI) in Potsdam Science Park, Germany announces the position of a PhD student (m/f/d)
Your tasks and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of Molecular Biology / Vaccine Development. The candidate should have a degree in Molecular Biology or closely related fields, with an outstanding profile.
Our group works on the development of semisynthetic glycan vaccines against bacterial and fungal infections (e.g. Streptococcus, Klebsiella, Acinetobacter, Candida and other resistant bacterial and fungal pathogens).
Profile
* M.S. degree in Biology or Life Science. Experience in molecular biology and cell culture techniques is a prerequisite
* Strong knowledge and experience in molecular biology (e.g. bacterial culture, mRNA purification, PCR, sequencing analysis, transfection, protein expression and purification)
* Experience with flow cytometry (FACS), immunoassay (e.g. ELISA) and animal models would be beneficial
* Highly motivated and team oriented
* Good organizational and communication skills
* Passion for developing vaccines and antibodies for infectious diseases
