The Faculty of Medicine of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is offering the
W2-Professorship for Experimental Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (m/f/d)
to be filled as soon as possible on a permanent basis.
The professorship is affiliated to the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the University Medical Center Magdeburg. The professorship is associated with the management of the associated research laboratory. No involvement in clinical patient care is planned.
We are seeking a scientifically accomplished individual to represent the field of Experimental Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in both research and teaching, and to actively contribute to the further development of the department’s preclinical research profile.
Applicants are expected to have:
* a completed degree in Human Medicine or in a relevant natural science (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry) a completed doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) a habilitation or proof of equivalent postdoctoral scientific achievements extensive experience in basic experimental research, ideally including expertise in animal models International visibility demonstrated by high-quality scientific publications a proven track record of securing competitive third-party research funding
* demonstrable teaching experience at a university or medical faculty over several years, as well as experience in supervising academic theses (bachelor’s, master’s and, if applicable, doctoral theses) and mentoring early-career researchers a research focus relevant to anaesthesiology or intensive care medicine, with an immunological and/or neuroscientific orientation clear thematic links to the ongoing research activities at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, particularly in the areas of pain, blood-brain barrier integrity, and cognition Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, ideally within an academic environment Interest in integration into the faculty’s established research structures, especially within the strategic focus areas of Neurosciences and Immunology
Key responsibilities:
* Establishment and leadership of an independent experimental research team
* Contribution to teaching within the faculty’s medical and scientific degree programmes
* active participation in academic self-governance and in cross-faculty research initiatives
