Mbiomics is looking for a Scientist (m/w/d) in Microbiology who will work at the intersection of bioinformatics, microbiology, and microbiome therapy development. This role is critical to advancing our therapeutic pipeline by applying mbiomics’ proprietary microbiome profiling technology to biological and clinical samples, identifying keystone bacteria, and translating data into actionable insights for product design. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in microbiology, brings experience in lyophilization and expertise in microbiome research and bioinformatic-based methods, combining hands-on microbiology experience with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.
JOB DESCRIPTION
* As part of the R&D team at mbiomics, your primary tasks will be to conceptualize, lead, and support various aspects of in-house lyophilization and formulation development for LBPs consisting of large bacterial consortia
* You will drive the downstream process development for our live biotherapeutic products (LBP) manufacturing process
* You will support the development of characterization and release testing of such large bacterial consortia.
* You will support the upstream manufacturing processes development for such large consortia, including but not limited to fermentation optimization
* You will support the tech transfer of downstream processes and manage related activities at a CDMO and CROs
* You will mentor and provide technical guidance to process development scientists and may supervise a small team focused on downstream process development.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential
* A PhD in microbiology or bioengineering with a significant experience in a field related to microbiology or microbiome research
* Hands on experience in lyophilization and formulation of LBPs
* Profound understanding of LBP manufacturing including fermentation and downstream processes required for DS/DP manufacturing
* At least 1 year of industry experience
* Managerial experience and ability to work across an organization with diverse stakeholders
* A passion for novel technologies, especially an interest for the microbiome and LBP development
Desirable
* Experience in a biotech startup or other fast-paced research environment.
