You will join our Sensient Technologies Europe team as an Innovation Scientist. In this role you will be responsible for new product development specifically focused on natural food colorant formulations and processing technologies. Using your in-depth knowledge and taking into account latest scientific findings, you will successfully implement new formulations and technologies as part of our European Food Colors innovation team and work in close collaboration with our innovation teams across the globe.
What you’ll do:
1. Development and scale-up of natural food colorant formulations by leveraging new and existing technologies to drive successful new product launches.
2. Identify opportunities to optimize formulations and processes and take action in implementation.
3. Conduct analytical, experimental and investigative R&D work using standard scientific methods and practical laboratory processes and techniques related to food color technology.
4. Evaluate new food colorant formulations in regard to color performance and stability and translate experimental results into quality control test plans and technical product specifications.
5. Maintain a safe work area that complies with company standards
6. Actively participate in the identification and management of external relationships and partnerships for third party research agreements.
7. Evaluate competitive landscape, review publications, patents, and technologies.
8. Lead and coordinate R&D projects in the innovation project pipeline from project initiation phase to successful new product launch.
9. Collaborate in national and international project teams, build R&D connections, develop and exchange technical content and participate in internal and external technical conversations.
What you’ll bring:
10. A university degree in food technology, food science, chemical engineering or similar studies
11. Ideally 5 years professional experience in R&D in the food ingredients industry, experience with natural food colorants is a strong advantage.
12. Strong understanding of food ingredient formulation and process development and upscaling into production, experience with food colors are an advantage
13. Strong innovative thinking, curiosity and creativity.
14. Strong analytical skills.
15. Critical thinking and attention to detail.
16. Organizational ability is required to prioritize innovation projects for importance and timeliness.
17. Ability to independently gather facts, plan and execute experiments, and objectively evaluate data and present to a diverse audience.
18. Excellent communication skills, experience in working both autonomously as well as in a team
19. Very good knowledge of MS Office
20. Very good language skills in English; German and additional other European language skills are an advantage
21. Willing/ ability to travel
