Under the supervision of the higher-level personnel, the Trades Generalist will perform journey-level work in carpentry, as well as skilled and semi-skilled tasks in other trades. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Perform routine, journey-level carpentry tasks, including framing, finish work, drywall installation, roofing, masonry, window and door installation, and additional construction activities.
• Supervise, train, and monitor the daily carpentry activities of permanent and seasonal staff, ensuring tasks are completed according to safety policies, building codes, and procedures.
• Plan and lay out work, including preparing materials lists, placing orders, and ensuring compliance with New York State purchasing guidelines.
• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Craft and assemble wooden structures, furniture, and fixtures.
• Utilize and perform routine preventative maintenance on hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Operate park machinery, including but not limited to: planers, band saws, sanders, and vertical routers.
• Inspect, clean, prep, stain, stack, and transport new and old lumber.
• Build and install furniture, cabinets, signs, and frames and mass produce items such as tables, benches, and bench slats.
• Drains, winterizes, and recharges the park water system seasonally.
• Diagnose and repair boiler, heating, ventilation system operations, broken pumps, pipes and fixtures, clearing blockages, installing new components, and expanding or modifying existing systems.
• Lay out, assemble, and inspect scaffolding.
• Follow building codes and regulations.
• Maintain material trackers, daily activity reports, facility and equipment inspection reports, and other required records.
• Assist in emergency response functions as assigned.
• Adheres to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
Although the work is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a journey level craftsperson.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled
tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training,
apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
