Key accountabilities:
1. Aero-thermal design and development of aero-engine gas turbine combustion chambers and its components.
2. Teaming-up the global Rolls-Royce combustion team and supporting the development of Rolls-Royce low emissions combustion technology and methodology focusing on NOx and particulate emissions (nvPM).
3. Managing the trades for combustion between operability, emissions, efficiency and thermo-acoustics defining safe, creative, robust and optimised solutions while managing risk and applying new technology as appropriate.
4. Supporting the group to work on aero-thermal combustion tasks of all Rolls-Royce gas turbines in development and in-service.
5. Applying and developing in-house computational tools and methods during all phases of the combustor design definition phase to derive understanding of component and system level interactions in high temperature environments.
6. Definition, support and analysis of validation experiment; feed-back of test results and implementation of design changes into new technology developments from low TRL and high TRL rigs up to engine validation levels.
7. Define and support National and European funded R&T programmes to acquire new combustion technologies with universities and sub-contractors.

Qualification:
8. Engineering degree in mechanical or aerospace technology or equivalent degrees or experience, potentially PhD.
9. Profound knowledge in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics; experience in gas turbine combustion and in design and operation of aero-engine combustors preferred.
10. Technical knowledge on the field of aero-engine emissions preferably non-volatile particulate matter.
11. An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters.
12. Good communication skills, team spirit and team player.
