Senior/Principal Engineer - Battery System Engineering – Germany (Nuremburg) On-Site

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Senior or Principal Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge battery energy storage systems (BESS) for the European market. Responsibilities:
* Technology Leadership: Provide deep technical insights into core technologies for next-generation BESS designs, including novel cooling strategies, advanced power electronics integration, and energy management system interfaces.
* Advanced BMS Expertise: Drive innovation in advanced battery management systems, focusing on novel monitoring and state estimation methods, and contribute to the development of detailed specifications.
* Market Analysis: Analyze application-specific requirements for stationary BESS across European markets, including residential, district/micro-grids, C&I, and utility-scale applications.
* Hybrid Energy Systems: Provide strategic insights on hybrid energy storage systems and potential market developments, aligning with the requirements for a successful energy transition.
* Modeling & Simulation: Develop and utilize advanced models and simulations for BESS, encompassing battery packs, power electronics, cooling, safety concepts, and battery/energy management, considering electrical, thermal, and aging behaviors.
* Hybrid System Simulation: Create and utilize system simulations for hybrid energy storage systems, combining batteries with technologies for high-power and long-duration storage needs.
* Model Optimization: Balance accuracy and computational complexity in battery models for comprehensive BESS simulations, in-depth system analyses, and the development of advanced algorithms.
* Performance Analysis: Employ system simulation to conduct detailed investigations of battery pack and BESS performance under varying operating conditions and battery states.
* Fault Analysis: Utilize system simulation to analyze fault scenarios and their impacts on the BESS, such as increased resistance or internal short circuits.
* Lifetime Optimization: Identify the impact of load profiles across various applications on BESS lifetime.
* Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate and maintain high-quality collaborations with leading universities and research institutions across Europe.
* R&D Collaboration: Work closely with our Digital Power Headquarter R&D and product teams to drive innovation and product development.
Qualifications:
* PhD in Electrical Engineering, Control Science & Engineering, Electrochemistry, Physics, or a related field with 6 years experience OR MSc with 10+ Years (post study)
* Profound work experience specifically in stationary battery energy storage domains, with a strong understanding of stationary applications and associated technological challenges.
* Proven track record of publishing high-level scientific papers in battery models, battery application studies, or battery/energy management systems.
* Demonstrated experience in leading project teams with strong management skills.
* Established relationships with leading research groups in Europe.
* Willingness to travel internationally, including within Europe and to China.
* Excellent communication skills and adaptability to multicultural environments.
