The Medical Faculty, Department of Internal Medicine I (Medical Director Prof. Dr. Thomas Seufferlein), is seeking to fill the position, starting as soon as possible, of a Professor (W3) for translational research on the Influence of Microbiota and Microeukaryotes on Disease Onset and Progression no management responsibilities. The professorship involves leading the field of microbiota and microeukaryotes in both research and teaching. The candidate should demonstrate an independent research profile, evidenced by successful acquisition of third-party funding and high-impact publications in basic and/or translational research on the influence of microbiota and microeukaryotes on the aetiology and progression of diseases, as well as the ability to translate research findings into practice. A scientific focus should be on research into the role of microbiota and microeukaryotes in the development and progression of diseases at barriers in the GI tract. Applications that also relate to the research areas of the Faculty of Medicine’s core research fields—namely trauma, oncology and neurodegeneration—are particularly encouraged. Translational approaches should be used to develop new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies based on the findings obtained. The successful candidate is expected to be willing to collaborate within research networks at the University of Ulm, e.g. the Boehringer Ingelheim Ulm University BioCenter (BIU), the existing Collaborative Research Centres (CRCs) and GRKs, as well as the CCCU and the NCT-SW, and to contribute to the development of new collaborative initiatives.

The professorship plays a key role in student education and, consequently, in both curricular and extracurricular teaching in the field of internal medicine for medical students, as well as in the Molecular Medicine degree programme. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in developing and implementing new teaching concepts (including within new teaching building (TTU).

Employment requirements are completed university studies as well as teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and further pertinent scientific achievements (§ 47 LHG).

Seize the opportunity and join us in shaping the future of the University!
