Thesis - Two-stroke operating cycle of a hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine
______
Students — Thesis; Limited
Stollberg
This challenge awaits you:
Decentralised energy generation is becoming increasingly important as it offers a flexible and sustainable alternative to centralised power supply. In this context, hydrogen is considered a promising energy source for the future as it offers a clean and efficient way to store and transport energy. As an emission-free fuel, hydrogen can play a central role in the energy transition and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. Optimising efficiency can reduce both energy consumption and operating costs, leading to a more sustainable and economical use of resources. Reducing emissions is a key goal of modern engine development in order to minimise environmental impact and comply with legal requirements. Innovative technologies and optimised operating procedures can help to significantly reduce emissions from combustion engines and thus contribute to climate protection.
Your Tasks:
* You will conduct literature research on hydrogen-powered two-stroke engines, with a particular focus on mixture formation.
* You will familiarise yourself with the necessary software (1D, 3D, CAD).
* You will be responsible for updating existing 1D engine models and creating/updating CFD models for charge exchange.
* You will conduct sensitivity studies to optimise the two-stroke working process.
* You will embed the CFD results in the 1D working process simulation.
* You will be responsible for optimising the overall system with regard to the operating conditions.
Necessary Skills:
* Current studies in the field of automotive engineering, drive technology, combustion engines, energy generation or a comparable engineering degree programme
* German and English language skills at C1 level
Desired Skills:
* Experience in 1D working process simulation of combustion engines
* Experience in CFD simulation of combustion engines
* Design of combustion engines
* You are interested in challenging development tasks
* You apply your new knowledge and skills in a goal-oriented manner
* Your commitment, willingness to learn and motivation help you to understand complex issues
