About the team and the role:
We are in the process of expanding our engineering hub in Germany. Several new engineering positions are being opened within Shipping Domain in our Dreilinden office located in the greater Berlin area. We are looking for a Staff Back-end Engineer who will be part of the Global Shipping team and who can help us build exciting products at eBay.

We are a product-oriented team, we move fast, and stay curious.
You will be working on new experiences for millions of customers. You will lead the development of modern Java/Spring Boot based web applications by developing system designs, helping define the technical roadmap, guiding the team on all technical aspects, and implementing code. You will report to a Sr. Manager of engineering, as well as work closely with the wider engineering team of the new engineering hub.

What you will accomplish:
1. Translate open product problem into a designed cross-component solution
2. Contribute to the design and development of scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
3. Participate in architectural discussions to drive system-level decisions and innovative solutions.
4. Create design documents and technical specifications for key projects.
5. Break down the work into meaningful milestones and provisioning estimations
6. Develop and maintain server-side applications using Java and SpringBoot.
7. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, following coding standards and guidelines.
8. Conduct and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and consistency.
9. Work closely with product managers, and other engineers to deliver features and improvements.
10. Develop and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
11. Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and system issues
What you will bring:
12. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar technical degree, with 9+ years of experience designing and developing highly scalable web applications.
13. Proven experience building scalable backend systems with Java / Spring Boot.
14. Experience building RESTful APIs and implementing microservices architectures.
15. Proficiency in working with relational databases and/or NoSQL databases
16. Basic understanding of modern UX frameworks like React.js
17. Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines and knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies
18. Proficiency in writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
19. Having work experience with Kotlin and Prometheus Query Language is a plus
20. eBay requires employees to be present in the Dreilinden office three days per week on average
