Media Officer Berlin*

The position is to be filled by as soon as possible with an unlimited contract. Employment location will be Berlin, Germany.
As Press Officer in Berlin, you will be responsible for managing all press and media relations of the Capital Office, working closely with the team leadership in Bonn. Your goal will be to strategically expand and strengthen Welthungerhilfe's visibility in both traditional and digital media, including daily press, TV, radio, and online outlets. You will cultivate relationships with key editorial offices and Berlin-based correspondents, place topics and spokespersons in relevant media formats, and ensure strong public visibility of our work. Through active networking, identifying media opportunities, and supporting our leadership at public events, you will play a central role in effectively positioning Welthungerhilfe's mission within politics and society.
Your responsibilities
* Proactively place Welthungerhilfe topics in the media and respond to press inquiries with confidence
* Build, maintain, and strategically expand media contacts to engage new editorial offices with our issues
* Plan and organize press appointments, interviews, and background discussions in Berlin
* Draft and edit press releases, statements, quotes, and soundbites with high linguistic precision
* Prepare content tailored to different media formats and target audiences
* Collaborate in the newsroom and provide active support at the journalist desk
* Conceptualize, organize, and accompany press trips and journalist delegations
* Represent Welthungerhilfe by moderating events in Berlin
* Prepare detailed briefings and support colleagues ahead of interviews
Your profile
* University degree in communications, journalism, media studies, or a comparable qualification (e.g., journalism school, traineeship)
* Several years of experience in press and public relations, ideally in a newsroom, NGO, or communications agency
* Excellent knowledge of the German media landscape and a strong professional network, particularly in Berlin
* Strong digital skills and hands-on experience in the professional use of AI tools
* You recognize the growing value of data in communications and are motivated to further develop your knowledge and skills in this area
* Outstanding writing and communication skills, journalistic instinct, and proven ability to produce precise texts in both German and English
