Assistant Registrar (m/f/d)
for documenta 16.
This is a full-time position ( 40 hours per week) with a fixed-term contract ending on June 30, 2027, or December 31, 2027.
The start date is July 1, 2026, or October 1, 2026.
documenta and Museum Fridericianum gGmbH is a non-profit corporation supported and financed by the City of Kassel and the State of Hesse as shareholders, and additionally funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. The non-profit GmbH is responsible for the documenta exhibition, which takes place every five years, the Fridericianum, the documenta archive—which is being developed into the documenta Institute—and the documenta Halle.
Your Responsibilities
* Organization and scheduling of international art shipments
* Requesting quotes and awarding transport contracts
* Coordination with customs authorities
* Preparation and management of exhibit lists and condition reports
* Drafting loan agreements with international lenders (galleries, museums, artists, estates, private lenders)
* Registration of exhibits with insurers, damage reporting, and claims processing
* Coordination of installation and dismantling in consultation with lenders, couriers, and the production team
* Monitoring of safety precautions during unpacking, installation, exhibition operations, dismantling, and repacking
* Updating and maintaining the database (Moliri)
Your Profile
* A completed degree (e.g., museum studies, art history, cultural studies, cultural management) with a specialized focus or further training
* Independent, structured, and precise work style
* Flexibility regarding working hours and the ability to handle pressure when working on time-sensitive tasks
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Sensitivity in dealing with a wide variety of people
* Excellent written and spoken English skills
* Proficiency in standard Office programs and databases
