PURPOSE & OVERALL RELEVANCE FOR THE ORGANISATION
This role contributes to adidas' mission to be the best sports company in the world by creating physical prototypes and technical components from 2D/3D files and tech packs according to exact design specifications as required by the development team. Identify the best process or process steps to turn design needs into a visual or functional prototype. Leverage a variety of digital and analogue techniques, using various types of machinery and hand tools; including machines for cutting, sanding, buffing, sewing and lasting. Utilize materials and processes to create physical models. Where applicable assist on innovative product concepts and identify solutions to bring them to life on specific or brand concept level
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. 3D file management and machine operation/maintenance to produce prototypes
2. Pre- and post processing of produced parts: i.e., cleaning, sanding, curing, painting, etc.
3. Creation of physical prototypes through various technologies or processes (urethane casting, laser cutting, vacuum forming, hand carving, pattern making etc.)
4. Support the conversion of design information into a confirmed set of technical data required for the rapid prototyping of technical components
5. Provide technical information in collaboration with design, development, and factory partners and guide them to the best process or prototype for their needs
6. Work closely with the Technical Manager to analyze designs for manufacturability, production efficiencies, potential functional or quality issues and costing issues and offer alternative, economic and efficient solutions. Point out solutions or opportunities during this process
7. Maintain and operate all related tools, equipment, and supplies: i.e., machine software, 3D printer, casting equipment, modeling tools, CNC or other programming
8. Offer technical solutions to the product team taking into consideration functional requirements of products, adidas quality standards, target costs and manufacturing constraints
9. Increase the speed and efficiency of processes by eliminating non-value adding steps and follow “Right the First Time” principle
10. Continuously increase knowledge of latest technological trends in rapid prototyping and post-processing of parts by active research or information gathering via i.e. fairs
11. Support and consult on advanced concepts in modeling, research, and execution as pertains to rapid prototyping
12. Bring new ideas to the team to optimize or initiate new prototyping techniques and services in alignment with the team leader
13. Collaborate with other adidas creation centers, internal departments and where needed and aligned external resources as needed
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
14. Technical Manager, BU´s, adidas internal creative departments
