Duties Description Under the direction of higher-level supervisory personnel, the Senior Filter Plant Operator will engage in activities/tasks involved in the operation and maintenance of potable water supplies and systems, and wastewater systems and treatment plants at Jones Beach Water Treatment Plant, Sewage Treatment Plant including sanitary systems and all associated sewage pumping stations, Jones Beach Pools and Spray pads at West and East bathhouses, Robert Moses and Captree Water Treatment Plants and all sanitary systems.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Performing a variety of maintenance tasks in a water or wastewater treatment plant and surrounding areas, including cleaning, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining pumps, valves, meters, filters, and screens.
• Running chemical tests, performing mathematical calculations to determine proper chemical addition, and adding chemicals.
• Adjusting water treatments to meet NYS DOH standards.
• Collecting water samples and delivering them to lab, recording samples taken, tests performed, and results, and actions taken in daily logbooks and on monthly forms.
• Performing semiskilled maintenance and repair activities in one or a combination of trade areas to plants and equipment for a portion of their time.
• Taking agency-required bathing beach samples and delivering to labs for testing.
• Operating and maintaining the park’s boat pump-out systems, sewage pumping stations, and septic tank system.
• Supervising and training staff in the operations of various types of water and wastewater treatment plants and systems, including distribution and collection systems: perform daily testing, adjust control panels, gauges, chlorinators, filters, and other equipment.
• Instruct and/or supervise lower-level workers in operating and maintaining plants and equipment.
• Will be assigned to perform semiskilled maintenance and repair tasks at facilities other than water and sewer plants during the non-operating season.
Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive Qualifications:
Certification from the Department of Health in the grade required for operation for the plant to which assigned; appointees may be temporarily employed pending certification but must be removed if they fail to achieve certification.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Senior Filter Plant Operator.
