The Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf has an opening to be filled as soon as possible for a Computer Scientist / Data Scientist (m/f/d) Full-time or part-time The position is subject to the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG, pursuant to Section 2 (2)) and is initially limited in duration until the end of the project on June 30, 2030. The position involves contributing to the development of the infrastructure for the RACOON project (www.racoon.network/) within the University Medicine Network (NUM Initiative) as well as the implementation of scientific and infrastructural projects at the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and in the Artificial Intelligence and Radiological Informatics sub-division. The sub-division’s goals include researching applications of artificial intelligence in radiology to improve medical diagnostics and care. In addition to developing corresponding predictive models, the focus is also on implementing AI-supported infrastructures. Your responsibilities: Infrastructure & IT Assistance in setting up and maintaining the infrastructure of the RACOON project Administration of technical infrastructures and data management at the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Creating database queries, statistics, and analyses, as well as data modeling in accordance with medical standards (including DICOM, HL7, FHIR) Research & AI Development Implementation of scientific research projects within the RACOON network Contribution to the scientific development and implementation of AI-based models Authoring scientific publications Project Management & Communication Coordination of (sub)projects in the field of radiology Internal and external communication with relevant departments in IT, research IT, the data integration center, third-party funding agencies, as well as hospital management and collaboration partners Your Profile: Completed university degree (MSc or Diplom) in computer science, data science, or related fields Research experience and/or experience in project management, with an interest in further developing skills in the other area Solid knowledge and practical experience in artificial intelligence methods, particularly machine learning, deep neural networks (deep learning), and generative AI Relevant programming experience (including Python, scikit-learn, PyTorch / TensorFlow / Keras) Solid knowledge and experience in system administration and with Windows and Linux operating systems Initiative, commitment, and the ability to collaborate A structured and independent work style, as well as openness to cooperative collaboration in interdisciplinary teams Strong communication skills and excellent written and spoken German and English We offer: Full-time or part-time employment A diverse role with significant creative freedom at the cutting-edge intersection of research, technology, and patient care Flexible working hours Work with large medical datasets and access to high-performance computing (HPC) / GPU infrastructure Collaboration within the national network (NUM) Support for publications & conference participation Opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. Secure and performance-based compensation according to the collective bargaining agreement (TV-L), including supplementary pension benefits in the public sector (VBL) Opportunity to participate in the wide range of continuing education programs offered by Heinrich Heine University and the University Hospital Düsseldorf Attractive employee discounts (staff cafeteria, health promotion, corporate benefits & Gympass, and much more) Compensation is based on TV-L in pay grade 13, with all prior service credited in accordance with collective bargaining regulations.
